The Witness/Evangelism Committee seeks to welcome strangers and the un-churched to GUMC and lead them to ministries, which will aid in their becoming disciples for Christ through membership in GUMC. Through prayer and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Witness/Evangelism committee will use its gifts to embrace all who seek Christ, provide Christian nurture, encouragement, and guidance to those persons who desire to become a member of the fellowship of Christian believers and disciples through membership in GUMC. The chair of this committee is Frances Redmond. The committee meets bi-monthly on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Asbury Bldg. Conference Room.

Congregational Care

Volunteers visit our church members who are homebound, in assisted living centers, or in a health care home. The purpose of this program is to let these members know that even though they are unable to attend services, they are still important to us. Please prayerfully consider serving as a volunteer visitor.

Prayer Ministry

Members of this prayer ministry seek to uphold the ministries, staff members, and lay members of our extended church family and seek God’s miraculous intervention in the lives of hurting people in the church and community. Members pray over prayer requests received and updated weekly. Cards are then sent to the individuals on our prayer list each week as a reminder that God is with them.

Greeters serve as a part of our hospitality team by giving a warm and sincere welcome on Sunday mornings to our members and especially to our visitors. Greeters are eager and willing to inform visitors about our church, to assist in helping them find their way around the church, and to serve in any way needed.

GIFTS (Gathering in Fellowship to Share)

This group meets to share devotional time and to create items by knitting, crocheting and sewing, as well as doing other kinds of handwork. Items created have been provided to the members of Grace, the Killingsworth Home for Women in Crisis, Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia, the local health department, Bolivia, the infant nursery at Georgia Regents University (GRU) Hospital, and oncology units at GRU and University Hospitals.

  • GIFTS in the morning meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Youth Wing. For information about the morning group, call Mary Jane Wisenbaker (803/441-8433)
  • GIFTS in the evening meets every Wednesday night following the WINGS meal in the Seekers Sunday School Classroom on the first floor of the Wesley Center. For information about the evening group, call Patsy Miller (803/278-1987).

New members are always welcome. This group holds an annual bazaar in October in the Wesley Center. Money raised from this event enables GIFTS to make monetary contributions to the church and to other outreach opportunities.

New Visitor Ministry

Committee members join the pastoral staff in welcoming first-time worshipers to Grace UMC. Visitors are greeted, thanked for their interest in Grace, and given a small welcome bag of gifts and information about our church.

Parking Lot Greeters & Golf Cart Ministry

We believe that worship begins at Grace UMC in the parking lot.  Wouldn’t you love to be part of a group of dedicated volunteers who have the distinct opportunity to make a positive impression on our worshipers?  This is the only ministry team who influence every person who drives onto our campus.  To regular attenders or members, they are the first to extend a warm, friendly greeting.  To guests, they are a very important first impression of our church. This important ministry is in need of volunteers who would be willing to serve on a rotation basis. Call the church office for more information.

Our Golf Cart Ministry, “On Eagle’s Wings” can always use volunteers who are willing to escort Sunday worshipers in our golf cart from the parking lot to various buildings on the church campus.
