MissionsThemeNational & International Missions

In 1994, Grace participated in its first international mission trip, sending a medical team to Bolivia, South America. In succeeding years, construction teams also went to Bolivia. This ministry has been possible because of the loyal support of members of our congregation, from youth to older adults. Grace is open to serving other countries under the auspices of UMVIM. You can support this ministry through your prayers, your contributions for mission supplies, or your participation as a mission team member or as a volunteer at the fundraising events. Interested volunteers are invited to fill out an application form, found in the church office, or talk to anyone on the mission committee for more details.

Epworth Children’s Home

Epworth Children’s Home was established in 1895 by the South Carolina Annual Conference of the Methodist Church and chartered by the Act of the South Carolina General Assembly as Epworth Orphanage. Epworth provides child care, counseling, and related services to families and children, without regard to race, religion, national origin or ability to pay. Grace supports the Epworth Home financially on a yearly basis.

UMVIM (United Methodists Volunteers in Mission)

United Methodist Volunteers in Mission began as a lay movement in our own South Carolina in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. A small group decided that they could make a difference in the world. Since this simple start, UMVIM has spread through most of the United States and sends teams to almost every country in the world. Teams and individuals serve from a few days, to years, as volunteers providing medical and construction teams, guidance in teaching, evangelism, agriculture and many other areas. UMVIM-SC continues as a leader in providing teams and services to our brothers and sisters around the world. SC Conference in 2011 approved a resolution acknowledging UMVIM as the sending organization for mission trips. In 2012 Conference accepted a new set of guidelines and is now asking all teams to go under the guidance and direction of UMVIM. Teams go at the invitation of the area’s Methodist church and are recognized by both the SC Conference and Southeast Jurisdiction. Teams are able to work with local members to meet needs in the communities that may not be otherwise met.

Bolivia

Under the auspices and direction of UMVIM and Iglesia Evangelica Metodista en Bolivia, Grace sponsors a team of missioners on a yearly basis to administer physical and spiritual aid to the impoverished people of Bolivia. You can support this ministry by being a Missioner, by praying for the team, by participating in and supporting the fund raisers, or by contributing to requested supplies. Interested volunteers are invited to fill out an application form obtained from the church office.

Jose Luis Chambi Endowment Fund

Through an endowment fund, Grace currently funds the education for one Bolivian child who attends a private Christian school in Caranavi, Bolivia. This child not only receives educational instruction, but moral and spiritual guidance as well. An individual can contribute to the endowment fund for the student Grace UMC supports or they can support a child of their own choosing if so desired for $35 a month.
