Adult Sunday School

Adult classes being offered:

Agape

This is a small class of couples and individuals, mostly in their 50’s-60’s. The format of the class emphasizes discussion. Many members of the class share teaching. Resources include Bible study, current events, tapes, and other materials. Members individually and collectively take part in outreach programs such as “Angel Tree,” Community Ministry, and prison ministry. Social events are scheduled during the year. The Agape class respects diverse ideas and viewpoints. Spiritual and emotional support for members as part of the Christian family is valued.

Cokesbury

Class members are active empty-nesters sharing fun, friendship, and fellowship. Excellent teachers lead the class on a rotating schedule using the Cokesbury Adult Bible Series as the basis for lecture and discussion. Class members participate as devotional leaders, provide special music, and share their creative writings. Church activities include women’s and men’s groups, committees, congregational care, lay reading, greeters, adult choirs, and church drama productions and are supported by the class. Missions such as CMONA, Habitat for Humanity, Operation Christmas Child, and Project Angel Tree are supported through service and with financial gifts from special offerings. Various class members have served on foreign mission teams in Bolivia and Honduras. Coffee and refreshments are available each Sunday morning. The class fellowship extends to the Christmas party, dinners out, monthly bridge games, and more. A listening ear and words of encouragement are offered, and meals and other assistance are provided in times of need.

Etheredge Class

The Etheredge class is composed of senior adult men. The class opens Sunday School with hymns and music provided by Susan Bledsoe. The lesson is then taught from the Cokesbury Adult Bible Study Series with the help of Church volunteers as teachers on a weekly basis. Lessons are mainly lecture type, though discussion is encouraged. Being one of the smallest Sunday School Classes and having lost some of our regular committed teachers to God and Glory over the past couple years we are experiencing a shortage of teachers. The Class would welcome and are always in need of volunteers to teach the class. Thanks to Ed Wilson as he has performed a super job during these trying times with no questions asked. The class would like to ask for additional volunteer teachers within the church as to allow Ed a break with the teaching assignment. Lesson preparations weekly for one teacher is very time consuming and can take up a lot of their personal family time. Larry Hall has committed to the 5th Sunday months and that has been very much appreciated. The class regularly contributes to Epworth Children’s Home and supports occasional church funds and several emergency type requests from the church. We would like to welcome any senior single males to join our class and be blessed with the teachings of our teachers.

Family Foundations

The Family Foundations class is a large and active class, encompassing an array of members, some who are married and others who are single, divorced, or widowed. Our ages range mostly from the forties to the fifties (and some who are lucky enough to have made it beyond), although we welcome members of any age. Together, we support one another and our families as members of the family of Christ, with care and with prayer, through the best of times and through the worst of times. We enjoy joining one another for faith, food, fun, fellowship, and friendship, while we also reach out to others in the community and abroad in a variety of ways. Over twenty years old, the class is time-tested and still growing and changing. Our doors are always open to visitors and new members! Come join us as we study the word of God and seek ways to put it into practice in our daily lives.

New Life

The New Life Class is a fun, outgoing, and friendly group, currently made up of approximately 70 married and single adults in their late-twenties to mid-forties, with and without children. We value the relationships in our class and regularly schedule time to get to know each other better. We have lessons delivered by various class members and guests on a variety of topics that relate to our United Methodist Beliefs and current social issues. The New Life class sponsors the church Chrismon Tree and our membership is very active in participation in the LifeSong Service. The class has a very strong mission program where we have supported various local and international missions. Recent Mission Projects include the SC Autism Society, Honduras Mission Trip, and the Grace Child Development Center. We are also a big supporter of the Bolivia Mission team through our collection of lip balm and money for Spanish language Bibles. We also have an ongoing sponsorship of a young boy from India named John Joseph. Our Social events include the nearly famous After Christmas Party and our end-of-summer lake party. Roundtable

The Roundtable Class selects lessons from a variety of contemporary publications that have Christian growth as their theme. This class of older adults is composed of singles and couples and has a growing membership. Class attendance averages 20 persons. Members participate in all phases of church life. The food drive for the Community Ministry has been a long-time project and is well supported. Our logo, or class emblem, was designed by a class member and truly represents this class. The emblem is symbolic of our Christian faith and the values of the Roundtable class.  The circle of the table signifies the unbroken friendship and support we give one another. It also indicates that our class enjoys fellowship and discussions in which everyone participates. The crown symbolizes Christ as the ruler of our lives. The dove represents the Holy Spirit, and the Bible is the beginning of all our understanding. The open door symbolizes Christ’s invitation to all and our own openness to new people and fresh ideas. The fish in the center represents the Trinity–the basis of our Christian faith.  New members are welcome!

Stillwell

Established in 1949, this class with a membership of around 50, ends each Sunday lesson with the following prayer:
“Our heavenly Father, give us a right spirit in our hearts, one of love and helpfulness. Show us where we can be of help to others and make us glad to do whatever we can for those who need our help."
The members of the Stillwell class have played a major role in the development of Grace from the 1950's. As a group, they are completely dedicated to the support of the church and its programs and have donated money to projects and situations over the years. They are generous with their time as well as their talents and their resources. This class remains “Young at Heart” and are an active and dynamic class who are interested in studying the Word of God and worshipping and serving. We believe we have some of the finest Sunday School teachers and it shows in the quality of our lessons! This class enjoys an annual Christmas party and spring outing.
